The short version

Palette Remote and its Mac companion ("Palette Remote Host") do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Every message between your iPhone and your Mac stays on your local Wi-Fi network, signed end-to-end with HMAC-SHA256. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no third-party SDKs.

What the iPhone app stores on your device

  • Pairing tokens — 256-bit secrets exchanged during pairing, stored in the iOS Keychain so you can reconnect without re-pairing.
  • Settings — trackpad sensitivity, haptic strength, appearance. Stored in UserDefaults on your device.
  • Trial counter — the number of free connection sessions you have used. Stored in UserDefaults.
  • Pro unlock entitlement — validated directly against the App Store via Apple's StoreKit framework. We do not run or call any server of our own.

What the Mac host stores on your Mac

  • Pairing tokens per paired device — mirror of what the iPhone stores, kept in the macOS Keychain.
  • A preference for whether to allow remote power commands (Sleep, Lock, Restart, Shutdown). Off by default for destructive commands.

Networking

Devices discover each other via Bonjour (service type _macremote._tcp) on your local network only. iOS prompts for Local Network permission the first time discovery runs. After pairing, every message is signed with HMAC-SHA256 using the 256-bit token, verified on receipt, and rejected if stale or replayed. No message is sent to any remote server, ever.

In-app purchases

Palette Remote Pro is a one-time $4.99 in-app purchase, not a subscription. Payment happens entirely within Apple's StoreKit. We never see your Apple ID, payment information, or billing details. Apple handles the transaction and notifies the app of the resulting entitlement, which is stored only on your device and validated locally against the App Store.

Third parties

None. There are no analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, crash reporters, or tracking libraries bundled with either the iPhone app or the Mac host.

Children

Palette Remote is rated 4+. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone of any age.
